NOT that Navan O'Mahony's should be burdened by history but such is the paucity of Meath success in Leinster or All-Ireland club combat, it's worth repeating anyway.
Dunshaughlin (2003) are the only Meath Leinster club champions in the past 30 years.
No team from the Royal county has ever won the All-Ireland club title.
And the last time O'Mahony's were in this particular competition, they were beaten by 11 points to Emmet Óg, the Longford winners.
Strange ... but true.
Mind you, it's 1987 since an Offaly side (Ferbane) captured the Eastern province but Rhode are, at least, serial participants in Leinster club fare.
Indeed, they were finalists as recently as 2010 and '08 but lost on both occasions to Kilmacud Crokes.
Their three-point win over Edenderry in the county final made it seven Offaly titles from 11 and in Niall McNamee, they have a potent, consistent scoring threat, regardless of the time of year, competition or level.
He scored seven points in the final but was ably assisted by Anton Sullivan and in Alan McNamee, Brian and Niall Darby, they have plenty of county-grade quality.
It's only fair to point out that when O'Mahony's went down so drastically to Emmet Óg, they were without the injured Kevin Reilly and Stephen Bray.
As it happens, Reilly is out again until spring of next year though Bray was backed up by the likes of Jake Regan and his brother, David in their county final win over Donaghmore/Ashbourne.
ODDS: Rhode 4/6, Draw 7/1, O'Mahony's 6/4
