Midfielder Stephen so sorry for his 'stupid' red card

Birmingham

IRELAND international Stephen Gleeson has apologised to his Birmingham City team-mates for his "stupid" sending off last weekend, writes Aidan Fitzmaurice.

The Dubliner saw red for kicking out an an opponent during Birmingham's Championship win over Brentford but Gleeson now faces a three-game ban. "We got tangled up on the ground, he's had a little kick at me and I have kicked out at him. It's not acceptable, I'd like to apologise to the club, the players and the fans," said Gleeson.

"He did kick me first but I shouldn't have retaliated the way I did. The biggest punishment is the three games I am going to miss. It's a stupid thing I've done."
