McClean hungry for more action

THE REPUBLIC of Ireland's newest hero James McClean says he now has a taste for international football and is hungry for more.

Seven months after he lined out at Lansdowne Road for the Airtricity League XI against Manchester City while he was a Derry City player, McClean earned a standing ovation from the Dublin crowd of 37,741 when he replaced Aiden McGeady for the last ten minutes of a disappointing 1-1 draw with the Czech Republic.

And McClean didn't disappoint with an impressive cameo which should have played the 22-year-old into the squad for the Euro 2012 finals.

"Now I want to get on more, get more caps. It's up to the manager whether I stay in the squad or not, the only thing I can do is keep doing well for Sunderland," McClean told the Herald.

"It was brilliant just to get out there on the pitch and play, even to win one cap was something I always dreamed about and now I have done that.

"The welcome from the crowd was something I didn't expect and it really spurred me on.

"I enjoyed the reception I got, the fans were great to me. Being honest, the hair was on the back of my neck when I came on."
