Jim Stynes RIP

Dublin and AFL legend passes away

DUBLIN was today plunged into grief over the passing of AFL legend and former International Rules star, Jim Stynes.

The former Ballyboden man died in his adopted home of Australia at the age of 45 after a lengthy, public battle with cancer.

He has been honoured with a state funeral in Melbourne, the date of which has yet to be confirmed but is likely to take place early next week and to which the GAA are set to send an official delegation.

The Dublin County Board today confirmed that there will be a tribute to Stynes’ legacy during the last ‘Spring Series’ event in Croke Park this Saturday in the form of a minute’s silence.

“Our sympathies today are with his wife and children, his family, his friends in his club, Ballyboden St Enda’s and all the people who knew him in Australia,” Dublin chairman Andy Kettle said this morning. “You don’t get a state funeral without having led an extraordinary life.”
