Irish eyes can smile in France
Two surprise packages of the season have been Ansgar and Fiesolana and they both feature in the Prix De La Foret among a strong Irish representation in the race and on the Longchamp card.
Fiesolana was very good when winning the Matron Stakes and Ansgar has proved a real good horse for Sabrina Harty this season but I just think that Tom Hogan's Gordon Lord Byron (pictured) could fly the flag again and nick them all.
In the Prix Marcel Boussac, you want to be drawn middle to low over the mile and it will be interesting to see the Irish fillies Agnes Stewart and Jack Naylor battle it out over there.
Drawn high, you have a lot of work on your hands over a mile at Longchamp, but maybe Jack Naylor has just been a little under -rated for what she has already achieved and can give Fran Berry a memorable afternoon.
Of course, we also have Sole Power stepping up to the stage in the Prix de l'Abbaye and on that inside sprint track at Longchamp he will get an awful lot of cover, which will of course suit him and his style of running. It's just a matter of whether he gets the gaps or not.
He usually does, of course, but you can be sure that it will be heart in the mouth stuff with him again!
Newmarket tomorrow stages the Sun Chariot Stakes in which there is a strong French challenge, the pick of which, for me, is Esoterique who has beaten Miss France and Integral already this season.
