In-form Magee draws top seed in tough German Open

After the heroics of the European Mixed Team Championships in Belgium, where Ireland reached the quarter-finals for the first time, the German Open in Mulheim is next up for members of the Irish team.

In the women's singles, Chloe Magee (inset), the only Irish winner against Denmark in Belgium, has drawn top seed and world No 4 Sun Ji Hyun of Korea for her opening match next Wednesday.

Scott Evans has got a better draw for the men's singles, where he plays No 8 seed Sho Sasaki of Japanin the opening round. If he wins that, he could progress to a quarter-final match with the No 1 Jan Jorgensen of Denmark, a player he pushed to three games at the European Mixed Championships.

In the mixed doubles, Sam Magee and Chloe Magee play Russian pair Yartsev and Kosetskaya, who made the semi-final of last month's Swedish Open.

Sam Magee and Josh Magee, still finding their feet asa men's doubles partnership, are entered in next Tuesday's qualification tournament where they face an Indonesian pair.
