Windham to conquer Cork
Willie McCreery has been enjoying a fine season and can land the valuable Matchbook Straight Seven Irish EBF Premier Nursery Handicap at Cork tomorrow with WINDHAM BELLE (3.20, Cork).
The €40,000 contest is the latest big race to be ran on the impressive new straight track in Mallow and having been campaigned in much better company since winning a Dundalk maiden, this drop back to a nursery could see the bargain purchase come good for connections again.
McCreery snapped up the daughter of Anjaal for €7,000 and she can be backed to fend off those at the head of the weights like Royal County Down and Silence Please.
The latter is trained by Jessica Harrington (inset), who again enjoyed more success on the Curragh last night, and while Silence Please has strong claims, Harrington can also be confident in the first two races on the card at the Munster venue.
The dual purpose trainer has unleashed quite a number of promising juvenile fillies this season and UNKNOWN PLEASURES (2.20, Cork) can be her latest winner in this sphere having made an encouraging debut a fortnight ago.
Next up is another runner-up looking to go one better as CHASING THE DREAM (2.50, Cork) attempts to build on a decent effort at Galway first time out.
Her wide draw could be an advantage here and unless any of the newcomers are above average Chasing The Dream should be able to go one better on this occasion.
Indeed, the finale of this eight race card is the second leg of the Corinthian Challenge Series and after winning the Curragh leg NEVERUSHACON (5.50, Cork) might be able to oblige for Yvonne Connolly.
Aidan Fogarty's ENOUGH SAID (4.50, Cork) is a tentative pick in a widely competitive handicap, while the Mick Halford-trained HAZRAN (5.20, Cork) can end a run of seconditis to score in the penultimate race.
2.20 Unknown Pleasures
2.50 Chasing The Dream
3.20 Windham Belle
3.50 Silk Air
