Peter Fahey's placing of PEREGRINE RUN (7.40, Wexford) has seen the nine-year-old rack up three on the bounce and that winning streak can be extended in the J Donohoe BMW Chase today.
The talented 13-time winner was taken out of a Flat engagement at Roscommon last month when the ground turned too soft for his liking and while he won't have things his own way this evening, you won't have the pleasure of seeing many horses rated as high running at ordinary summer meetings at this time of year.
Peregrine Run is only a pound 'well in' compared to how he would meet Conrad Hastings in a handicap, but the wealth of experience that Fahey's charge has is a big plus and this can be another successful stepping stone on the way to Listowel in September which appears to be his main target.
Elsewhere at Wexford, THE BIG LENSE (7.10, Wexford) shaped promisingly enough on debut over fences to suggest he could claim the beginners' today.
John McConnell described his winner at Bellewstown on Wednesday as like having a winner on the Tuesday at Cheltenham, such is the importance of that meeting to the trainer and his owners, but he also sends a couple with chances to Wexford today.
The best of those would look to be Listowel bumper winner LOWTOWN CHARLIE (5.35, Wexford) who scored on his first start for the yard last month. Donie McInerney takes the ride on the promising hurdling newcomer in the opening race.
McConnell sends out ROI DE DUBAI (7.50, Bellewstown) in the feature race 'on the hill' and this could be a nice price for punters. Roi De Dubai needs a career best effort here, but the trainer is having the best time of his career and there was promise shown by the selection on his seasonal debut a few weeks ago.
Elsewhere at the Meath track, PERSIAN WIND (8.55, Bellewstown) can go one better in the last race than he did 12 months ago, while EIGHT AND BOB (7.20, Bellewstown) can win again for Willie Mullins.
YUFTEN (5.45, Bellewstown) made his debut for Aido McGuinness here on Wednesday night but is back in familiar company today by contesting the Newgrange Motor Centre Claiming Race.
Yuften enjoyed a good spell in claimers for Johnny Feane and back in this grade can yield more joy.
