Tony and Chanelle's Gold Cup joy

CHELTENHAM champion Tony McCoy's other half described it as a "dream come true" as she watched him win his second Gold Cup.

A thrilled Chanelle McCoy saw Tony ride the 8/1 shot Synchronised to victory in the classic race

A huge roar went up from the 70,000-strong crowd as the JP McManus-owned horse romped home .

"I'm absolutely just over the moon," Chanelle told the Herald. "It's the first Gold Cup for the McManus family so it's amazing, and it's AP's (Tony McCoy) second but just even the ride he gave it because the horse looked like it wasn't going to win from a long way off.

"But he was pushing it after the third fence and just got him back interested and gave him an unbelievable ride. It will mean the absolute world to him and especially to do it for the McManus family. We'll have some massive celebrations."

McCoy, who won the race on Mr Mulligan in 1997, described it as an "amazing performance".

He said he was "so pleased" to win it for JP McManus and also paid tribute to trainer Jonjo O'Neill. "Jonjo has done an incredible job. I've got a Grand National and a Gold Cup out of the man and I love him to bits," he said.

A beaming JP was also thrilled and was inundated with messages of congratulations in the winner's enclosure.

"It's a very special day, a very special moment -- for Jonjo, for AP and for their families," he said. "It gives everybody a great lift and I just feel very, very proud."

However, there was much disappointment for fans of Kauto Star after he was pulled up at the ninth fence by Ruby Walsh. The two-time Gold Cup winner was applauded as he was led off the track, with trainer Paul Nicholls explaining how he was "absolutely fine" but there was "something tweaking him".

Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson also had some bad luck in the feature race after watching his horse What A Friend fall at the start.

It brought to an end a thrilling week -- though the luck of the Irish certainly didn't hold, with just five wins for the Ireland raiders, compared with last year's haul of 13.
