Special talks for double bid

Discussions are still ongoing as to whether to allow Special Duty to bid for a 1000 Guineas double in the French version at the weekend.

Criquette Head-Maarek's filly was awarded the Newmarket Guineas in the stewards' room after suffering interference from Jacqueline Quest.

Teddy Grimthorpe, racing manager to owner, Prince Khalid Abdullah, said: "We really want to try and do the right thing by her.

"She's had quite a hard race at Newmarket so that's a consideration.

"But while she's in good form, the idea is that she could strike while the iron's hot. I have to speak to Criquette, but the most important thing is if she's happy with her.

"The main thing is to do the right thing by the horse. Prince Khalid will have a big say, and also the other consideration is that we may have another filly to run in the race."

Grimthorpe also had news of Henry Cecil's Twice Over after his below-par run in the Dubai World Cup.

"Twice Over came back from Dubai -- he had a bit of a race there," he said

"Henry is in favour of taking him direct to the Prince of Wales's at Royal Ascot.

"If he needed a race, he could go to the Brigadier Gerard at the end of the month."

One who did perform with credit in Dubai was Michael Stoute's Spanish Moon, who was third to Dar Re Mi in the Sheema Classic.

However, he has not run in England since November 2008 due to a few incidents down at the start.

"Something like the Coronation Cup would be an option for Spanish Moon. He'll do a stalls test before he runs again here," added Grimthorpe.

"He's got a straightforward series of races which we would consider.

"Michael would not rule out running him over a mile and a quarter."

Puff could be re-routed to Longchamp after being a late withdrawal in the 1000 Guineas due to the ground at Newmarket.

She had shown her Classic credentials with victory in the Dubai Duty Free Stakes at Newbury.

"She's in good nick and we'll think about the French Guineas next Sunday," said trainer Ralph Beckett.
