Racing is child's play to O'Leary
MICHAEL O'LEARY took time out from turning Ryanair into a cuddly airline to go to Navan last Sunday, where he suddenly became a cuddly owner.
The leading Irish owner – whose horses run under the Gigginstown House Stud banner – enjoyed a significant winner with the Tony Martin-trained Dedigout.
And waiting to welcome horse, owner and jockey Davy Russell back to the winners' enclosure was a four-year-old boy kitted out in the maroon and white colours of O'Leary that were sported by Russell.
Without any hesitation, and before even getting the debrief from his jockey, O'Leary whisked the boy away from his family and brought him in for a picture with Dedigout.
A couple of minutes later, O'Leary was invited up for a presentation by Boylesports, who sponsored the race, and again O'Leary took the young boy and sat him on the presentation platform and quite simply made his day.
We can say what we like about O'Leary, but this was a lovely gesture that gave that young lad a great story to tell all his classmates the following morning.
