EXCITEMENT continues to build for the Punchestown Festival at the end of next month, and with Sprinter Sacre set to be the big draw if connections opt to make the trip, it was encouraging to see Punchestown dangle the carrot.

On Saturday morning Punchestown announced an increase of prize money to some of their main races, one of which is the Boylesports.com Champion Chase, which could be the target for Sprinter Sacre, Flemenstar, Sizing Europe and Cue Card. What a race that would be.

In total there was a €200,000 injection to the prize fund bringing the total for the five days to just short of €2.2m.

After a record-breaking Cheltenham Festival, Punchestown are doing everything they can to attract not just the 14 Irish winners, but the best of the rest from England and so far all reports are that they are doing a very good job.
