Peaceful choice for Donnacha
Flat racing returned to Thurles this time last year for the first time in over 11 years and the track has held on to this fixture once again.
The addition of this fixture on the programme last year was due to the exceptionally dry weather and the track being unsuitable for National Hunt racing and when Aidan O'Brien is prepared to run a £1.2m purchase and a full brother to Group One winner The Gurkha, it is likely that this Flat fixture is safe for some years to come.
Every meeting now will attract interest in the jockey's championship and Donnacha O'Brien and Colin Keane could swap blows during the first half of this card.
Coolmore's £1.2m acquisition is Snow, who lines up in the opening maiden, but with Donnacha O'Brien choosing PEACEFUL (2.05, Thurles), it is obviously expected that the daughter of Galileo has come forward most from her debut.
LOUISIANA (2.35, Thurles) is the full brother to The Gurkha but is not likely to reach his heights as he is pitched into a nursery to open his account. Placed three times in maidens, he does have plenty of weight to concede but still should be good enough.
Then it is over to Colin Keane to play his part. His boss, Ger Lyons, supplies him with DEFILADE (3.10, Thurles) in the Racing Again October 24th Maiden and if able to come forward from his run earlier this year, he'd look hard to beat.
PIPER BOMB (3.45, Thurles) is a good ride for Keane in the Moyne Handicap and while cases could be made for many, she looks a solid choice.
RANDALLS UR POET (4.15), BAY HILL (4.50) and JAZZ TOES (5.20, Thurles) may all return for jumping engagements later in the season but today are picked to win on the level.
3.45 Piper Bomb
4.15 Randalls Ur Poet
