Jewel set to shine at Salisbury

ARTISTIC JEWEL can atone for a slightly unfortunate foray to Doncaster when she lines up in Salisbury's feature race.

Ed McMahon's filly was hampered towards the finish in a hot conditions stakes on Town Moor when Graham Gibbons tried to squeeze through a fast-diminishing gap.

The daughter of Excellent Art was out of luck, however, and had to be content with third spot behind the smart duo of Eureka and Gold City.

Artistic Jewel is in receipt of a good chunk of weight from three of her four rivals in the Veronica Stewart Memorial Conditions Stakes, and hails from a yard who do superbly well with young, speedy fillies.

Semmsu, meanwhile, can enjoy an Indian summer when he rolls into town at Nottingham.

Luca Cumani's three-year-old gelding made decent progress in four maidens before hosing up at Folkestone.

He showed a really accomplished shift of gear that day to pull four and a half lengths clear of Upcountry, who went off the 10-11 favourite.

The handicapper has not taken the form too literally as he is just 5lb higher for the Nottingham Racecourse Handicap.

A routine maiden win at Newcastle could be forthcoming for Khaleejiya in the the EBF/North Sea Logistics Maiden Fillies' Stakes. James Toller has a high opinion of this daughter of Jeremy, who had an eyecatching debut at Yarmouth in August.
