Grendisar can be a star at Chelmsford
Grendisar was one of the stars of the all-weather last winter and he can pick up where he left off as he returns to action in the mytotepool.com Conditions Stakes at Chelmsford.
The five-year-old certainly did Marco Botti proud in winning three Listed heats during the winter campaign before being beaten just three-quarters of a length by Tryster in the Winter Derby in March.
That rival again proved Grendisar’s undoing on All-Weather Championships Finals Day as Botti’s runner had to settle for third in the middle-distance event, with Complicit splitting the old adversaries.
Given a nice summer break, Botti decided to chance a trip to Turkey for a decent prize last month and while he was ultimately well beaten by Tha’ir, the outing should have helped put a bit of racing edge back on Grendisar.
The conditions of the race admittedly put him at a disadvantage with Fire Fighting, but Grendisar relishes the artificial surfaces and is sure to turn in another good performance.
Tafolau tackles her longest trip to date in the Bet totetrifecta Handicap but she looks a likely type for Mark Prescott.
The Newmarket trainer is renowned for switching up in trip with his inmates at the right time and a recent try at just short of this two-mile distance saw Tafolau post one of her best efforts to date.
The Dylan Thomas filly was staying on at the end when beaten two and a half lengths in third and while no staying star, she should be smart enough for something of this nature.
Bellajeu is worth one last chance in the totepool Racing’s Biggest Supporter Maiden Stakes as she continues her search for an elusive win.
Ralph Beckett’s charge already has a Listed place on her record but a victory, even at this level, would do wonders for her paddock prospects.
Last in the Oaks at Epsom back in June, Bellajeu has been sent off favourite for each of her three subsequent outings, placing on each occasion without looking a likely winner.
Her progress has seemingly arrested but this may not be the strongest heat she has tackled.
