Forecast is bright for Midsummer

MIDSUMMER Sun may have leapt up the ratings but he should be good enough to defy a 6lb higher mark at Nottingham.

Henry Cecil's charge arrived at the track with a tall reputation but he disappointed when only fifth on his racecourse bow at Newmarket in April.

A win at Haydock a month later inspired Cecil to step him up to Group Three company at Royal Ascot, but Midsummer Sun found it too big an ask when finishing well down the field in the Tercentenary Stakes.

Given a break to get over that experience, the Monsun colt then dropped back to handicap company at Chester where he scored a convincing win off a mark of 88.

Midsummer Sun was firmly in control that day and his efforts have not escaped the handicapper's notice, but the Denman – Building For You – Handicap looks another good opportunity.

The wildgooseconstruction.co.uk Maiden Stakes is another of those fascinating late-season contests where trainers scramble to get a win on the board.

Mahmood Al Zarooni can hit the target this time with Covert Desire, who struck the bar at Newcastle last time. The Pivotal colt only went down by a head at Gosforth Park and can make it third-time lucky here.

Mistress Of Rome should appreciate the step up to a mile in division one of the Find Us On Facebook Nursery.

Michael Dods' filly dropped back to six furlongs last time to win at Ayr but she looked certain to be a better performer over longer trips.

The turn of Royal Highness can come in Lingfield's Menzies Distribution British Stallion Studs EBF Maiden Stakes.

Third in a Wolverhampton maiden last time, he showed significant improvement on his debut effort when he was well beaten at Ascot.

Kinglet has some nice form in the book but he is on something of a retrieval mission in the Betdaq Mobile Apps Conditions Stakes. The Kingmambo colt was a short-head winner over Most Improved on his racecourse bow.

However, Kinglet then disappointed with a third at Salisbury and the same position again at Sandown last time.

He raced pretty keenly that day but given that the winner, Farraaj, has since been placed in Group Three company it was not too bad a run after all.

Bennys Well can go one place better than his first public outing in the Spinal Research 21st Anniversary At Wetherby Novices' Hurdle at Wetherby.

Second in bumper company at Towcester in May, Bennys Well was very green but was not beaten far and has sound claims.
