Flying Walsh wins for Fun

Ruby Walsh returned to action a week sooner than was expected to ride at this week's Harvest Festival at Listowel and the multiple champion jockey was back to winning ways yesterday afternoon.

Walsh was expected to fall short in the race against time to ride at the last of the big summer jumping festivals but got the all clear after recovering in good time from the crushed vertebra and torn ligaments in his neck.

It was the Willie Mullins-trained Bundle Of Fun, who was a popular 5/1 shot in the Devon Inn Hotel Handicap Hurdle, that got the Kildare rider back on track and he was clearly glad of it.

Enclosure

"I suppose when your not in it (winners enclosure) for a long time you can't wait to get back and it's nice to be here again," he said.

The reception that greeted Walsh back was undoubtedly one of the warmest of the week, which didn't go unnoticed, but he added: "It was a lot easier to be hurting during the summer than the winter.

"Injuries are just part of being a jump jockey but I don't think there is anyone there that can say I haven't had my fair share recently.

"I've had a bit of bad luck lately but I'm healthy, I'm standing, I'm well and I'm back."
