Fenton looking to Flat for Dunguib comeback

PHILIP Fenton is contemplating giving Dunguib (pictured) a comeback run on the Flat before putting him over fences.

The 2009 Cheltenham Festival Champion Bumper winner, and 2010 Deloitte Novice Hurdle victor, has been sidelined with heat in a tendon since finishing eighth to Hurricane Fly in the Champion Hurdle at Cheltenham in March 2011.

The County Tipperary trainer had been pleased with Dunguib following several months on a horse walker and was happy to step the nine-year-old up to road work.

"He's in good form and back on the roads every day so we're hoping we'll get him out in two or three months' time," said Fenton.

"We're getting there step by step.

"We first put him out for a little bit of grass and he has been on the go since.

"His legs seem quite good so we're just hoping we can get a couple of seasons out of him.

"I wouldn't mind if I started him in a Flat race before he went over fences.

"We'll see how we go, but the idea may be to start him off in a Flat race. He's still a good horse."
