Dunguib lands 'perfect' Trial
Dunguib continues to fuel debate on his Champion Hurdle credentials after his winning seasonal debut in the Red Mills Trial at Gowran Park on Saturday.
Philip Fenton's former Champion Bumper hero and high class novice hurdler of last season had not been seen in public since running somewhat disappointingly at Punchestown in the Champion Hurdle, but he proved his well being and booked his place in the Champion Hurdle with a very likeable performance on Saturday.
- In what was always going to be a match with Luska Lad, Dunguib was just sticky at one, possibly two of his hurdles, but jumped the final four probably better than he had previously done on a racecourse. The quicker the race was run on Saturday seemed to suit and despite being "a very sick horse five weeks ago" according to Fenton, Dunguib picked up gamely after the last to win well.
- He remains a 14/1 chance for the Champion Hurdle and was yesterday morning described as "absolutely A1" by Fenton.
"I have it in my head that he will come on leaps and bounds for the run," Fenton said. "It has just sharpened him a bit and it was just what he wanted. Saturday's race just fitted in perfect."
