Beggers belief that Luck won't come good

There are some potentially nice horses on show at Lingfield but perhaps the best betting opportunity is Beggers Luck in the Ladbrokes Mobile Handicap.

It is bargain basement stuff, but Eric Wheeler's mare is a lightly-raced five-year-old, whereas most of her rivals are thoroughly exposed.

Second at 100-1 on her third run at Lingfield over seven furlongs, she then appeared not to get home on her handicap debut stepped up to a mile and a quarter.

Back down at a mile last time out, Beggers Luck was second again, having been dropped to a mark off 55, 5lb lower than her initial rating, and that looks about right.

She was no match for Youm Jamil but stuck on nicely and the fact George Baker is happy enough to ride her again probably proves he thinks she is capable of winning a race of this nature.

Earlier on the card, the two maidens look decent on paper.

The best-bred newcomer in the Ladbrokes Maiden Stakes is Richard Hannon's Fondly, a half-sister to the brilliant Canford Cliffs.

Hannon's father trained that one to win five Group Ones but he never ran again after having been put in his place by Frankel.

Owned by Coolmore, Fondly was obviously slow to come to hand, having not run at two, but those with experience look nothing flash and Hannon's youngsters tend to know plenty when they make their debuts.

In the 32Red Casino Maiden Fillies' Stakes, John Gosden's Lashkaal brings a rating of 79 to the party, which would usually be enough to win an all-weather maiden.

However, she had four goes last year without winning and was beaten off a mark of 74 on her final outing.

Drawn in stall 11, Lashkaal may find things tough so a chance is taken on the Godolphin newcomer Skywards Miles.

Having cost 150,000 guineas, the son of New Approach is out of an unraced half-sister to a Group One winner.

Adam Kirby has been booked and he simply cannot stop riding winners at present.

Peter Niven's Sir Safir can finally win in the yorkshire-outdoors.co.uk Adventure Activities Maiden Hurdle at Catterick.

Six starts into his career he has shaped with a degree of promise without getting his head in front.
