Gunners in tug of war for Sanchez
A tug of war between Arsenal and Liverpool over the future of Barcelona's Alexis Sanchez will determine how swiftly Luis Suarez realises his ambition to leave Anfield for Spain.
Arsene Wenger made the Chile and Barcelona striker his priority transfer target of the summer and an initial bid of around £22million is understood to have been made.
Liverpool, however, have been given no indication Sanchez would snub Merseyside and obtaining his services was an essential element of what were described as "productive and realistic" preliminary negotiations over Suarez's sale to Barcelona yesterday.
Liverpool opened talks when an Anfield delegation including chief executive Ian Ayre met Nou Camp director Raul Sanllehi in London.
Further talks are planned over the next few days with Liverpool sources indicating conversations included "sensible expectations on both sides".
The inclusion of Sanchez, who is rated at around £30million, would ensure Barcelona could offer significantly less cash for the player, but it must be above the £40million mark.
