Westmeath's losing streak

WESTMEATH have lost their last 14 National League games and endured successive demotions taking them from the top-flight into Division Three, but manager Pat Flanagan has refused to set his sights on an instant return to Division Two.

"To be honest, we are looking at two points on the board as soon as possible. After that, we can talk about the long term," Flanagan cautioned. "If we start going on the (downward) roll of the last two years, it will be very difficult to compete at championship level. The sooner we get into a scene of winning games, the sooner we can set our goals for the coming year."

Westmeath open their NFL campaign on February 6 away to beaten Leinster finalists Louth, who are likely to be among their chief promotion rivals.
