Waterford veternan Browne limps out as Sheff' returns
WATERFORD veteran, Tony Browne, cried off injured for the Déise yesterday as they crashed to a challenge match defeat to Kilkenny on a scoreline of 5-19 to 2-17. Browne, who last year reversed his decision to retire from intercounty service in favour of embarking on a 19th season with Waterford, suffered a groin injury against the All-Ireland champions in Mooncoin last night and was replaced.
For Kilkenny, Henry Shefflin, made his first outing in the county jersey this season and bagged nine points, three of which came from play. Martin Comerford and Michael Rice bagged two goals apiece, while TJ Reid scored one of his own as Brian Cody's men ran out easy winners having led by 4-11 to 0-9 at half-time.
MARC ó Sé is Jack O'Connor's latest injury concern after the Gaeltacht defender limped out of an internal trial match on Saturday in Killarney. The youngest of the ó Sé brothers went over on an ankle and will have the full extent of the damage ascertained today, though with just six days to go before Sunday's Munster SFC clash with Tipperary, his knock is a worry for O'Connor and his management team.
Older brother, Tomás, has been declared fully fit after successfully recovering from a knee injury while Colm Cooper also took a full part in the match.
TYRONE midfielder, Aidan Cassidy is set to miss the Ulster SFC opener with Antrim on May 23 in Casement Park after suffering an ankle injury in a club match at the weekend. Cassidy, who was one of the Red Hands outstanding performers in their ultimately unsuccessful bid to stay in Division 1 of the NFL this spring, dislocated his ankle lining out for Augher in their local Division 2 fixture with Loughmacrory and was carried from the pitch.
"He's definitely out of the game," confirmed Tyrone assistant manager, Tony Donnelly. "It's a bad blow. It happened in the last couple of minutes, he went up for a high ball and it was just the way he landed."
Former minor All-Ireland minor winner, Kyle Coney, has also emerged as a doubt due to an ongoing back injury while there are still doubts over the availability of Justin McMahon.
