Tuohy optimism over Limerick impasse

NEW Limerick hurling selector John Tuohy has claimed that ongoing talks will result in several of the 'Limerick 24' eventually returning to play under embattled manager Justin McCarthy this season.

"I'd be very optimistic about them coming back," Tuohy predicted. "There has been ongoing dialogue between myself and the players, and that will continue. I've known most of these lads since they were 12 or 14 and they are good, decent guys. I think each player, individually, will himself make his own decision in time and I'd be very optimistic about it because they all want to hurl for Limerick."

PADRAIC JOYCE is on course to make an earlier-than-expected return from Achilles tendon surgery. "Padraic is well ahead of schedule," reported Galway boss Joe Kernan. "If he keeps going at this rate, he'll be back for our third league match away to Cork, which would be great."

The veteran talisman, 32, had the operation before Christmas and was initially expected to be sidelined for four months or more.
