tipperary RATINGS

DARREN GLEESON: Tested under the high ball often and fluffed his lines just once. Made three good saves and generally hit the mark on puck outs. RATING 8

CATHAL BARRETT: Had John Power for company in the first half but not as influential as in the drawn game. RATING 7

JAMES BARRY: Stopped a certain goal with his head, of all things. Some brilliant, but last-ditch, interventions and eventually drowned in the rising tide of Kilkenny's ferocity. RATING 8

PADDY STAPLETON: Won't make any highlights reel but stopped an overlap with a big hit on Richie Power in the second half. Solid. RATING 7

BRENDAN MAHER: Led like a captain, scoring brilliant point and clearing heroically. Arguably the best Tipp performer on a disappointing day. RATING 8

PÁDRAIC MAHER: Almost paid the price for his penchant for physical contact a couple of time but cleared his lines well. RATING 7

KIERAN BERGIN: Got through an amount of work and scrambled well. Colin Fennelly did almost all of his damage when switched off Bergin. RATING 7

SHANE MCGRATH: Scored three exceptional first half points, the second of which is a contender for score of the season. Faded though, and replaced. RATING 7

JAMES WOODLOCK: Marked Conor Fogarty but failed to exert much of an influence in possession. RATING 6

GEARÓÍD RYAN: A casualty of Kilkenny's indomitable half-back line. RATING 6

NOEL MCGRATH: Summed up his year. Hit two points but more peripheral than Tipp would like. RATING 6

JOHN O'DWYER: Hit two from play and a free. Not nearly as good as three weeks ago. RATING 6

PATRICK MAHER: Maybe the biggest source of Tipp regret is that they couldnt get 'Bonner' on the ball more. Brilliantly marked by Kieran Joyce but maybe wasted in the inside line for so long. RATING 6

SEAMUS CALLANAN: Any man who scores four goals in an All-Ireland final and replay deserves credit. Could have had a hat-trick only for JJ's hook. RATING 8

LAR CORBETT: More than anybody, struggled with Tipp's inability to create space in an unerring Kilkenny defence. RATING 6

SUBS:

MICHAEL CAHILL: Didn't arrive to the game at the same blistering pace already being set. RATING 6

CONOR O'MAHONY: Failed to make any meaningful contribution after a tough season. RATING 6

SHANE BOURKE: Forged one unlikely goal chance. RATING 6

JASON FORDE: Wasted one precious possession when Tipp were two down with a wide they'll come to rue. RATING 5

JOHN O'BRIEN: RATING 6
