Tipp: €50k not enough
TIPPERARY will seek more than €50,000 to offset the cost of preparing for their All-Ireland SHC final replay against Kilkenny - and they could get it.
An additional €50,000 was grant-aided to each of the competing counties after the last two All-Ireland hurling deciders went to replays, but GAA president Liam O'Neill stressed: "Central Council makes those decisions. We always discuss that, but we don't speculate on that. No one from either county has said anything official about it. We talked to the counties last year, and the year before, and a figure was agreed. And that will be done again."
Tipp chairman Seán Nugent has now confirmed they will apply for "something above the figure that we are told went to Cork and Clare last year."
He said the cost of running all their inter-county teams was set to top the €1m mark in 2014, while expressing fears that club gate receipts could be hit by later scheduling in inclement conditions.
