Syls boost play-off hopes with easy win
ST SYLVESTER'S improved their Top 4 play-off chances when comfortably accounting for Lucan Sarsfields by 1-13 to 0-8 in their Dublin Adult Football League Division 1 clash at Broomfield yesterday.
After losing to St Vincent's in the championship a fortnight ago, the Malahide men bounced back well from that disappointment with the defensive excellence of Fionn Carney and Declan Rooney restricting Lucan to just eight points over the hour.
Shane O'Connor impressed at midfield for the hosts and, with Nigel Dunne kicking four points from midfield, Syls confirmed their victory through a 45th-minute goal from the impressive Gary Sweeney.
At Tymon North, O'Toole's finished a disappointing league campaign on a high following a noteworthy 1-14 to 2-10 success over St Jude's.
Graham Dinh, Jodi Bastow and Aaron Lynch all featured prominently in the visitor's defence, while David Farrelly's goal and strong displays by Ger O'Meara, Paul McLoughlin and Peadar Carton saw the Larriers prevail by the narrowest of margins.
In AHL2, Naomh Fionnbarra moved into third spot in the table following their 1-17 to 0-10 victory over an understrength Whitehall Colmcille in The Bogies.
Stephen Costello was his usual impeccable self from placed balls for the hosts and, with Ger Doddrill, John Bailey and Gary McAuley all impressing, the Barrs cruised home through an Eamonn Dillon goal and Karl Turner points.
At the opposite end of the table, Naomh Mearnóg produced a morale-boosting display as they overcame Erin's Isle by 2-16 to 1-15 in Finglas.
