St Vincent's led from start to finish as they eased past St Oliver Plunkett's/Eoghan Ruadh by thirteen points in their Dublin SHC Group 3 clash at a rain-sodden Parnell Park last night.

The fear in advance of the encounter was that Vins would have too many options and so it proved as the Marino side controlled matters.

Vinnies started with serious intent as a John Hetherton free opened the scoring in the 1st minute before Conor Burke illuminated the dark evening with two exquisite points in quick succession.

Their margin increased to five points by the 5th minute following scores by Frankie Power and Alan Moore as their opponents struggled to make any concerted impression. .

The half continued in a similar vein as Burke added another brace of points to leave nine points between the sides by the end of the first quarter.

The Navan Road side finally offered their support a small degree of optimism in the 17th minute as Stuart Mullen converted a straightforward free but it proved a brief respite from Plunkett's as they faced incessant pressure from their opponents.

Mark O'Keeffe chipped in with a brace of his own and with Hetherton adding four scores from placed balls, a late Burke point pushed St Vincent's 0-14 to 0-1 to the good by half-time although the dismissal of Cian McBride along with David Phelan from Plunkett's punctured their positivity to a degree.

With the wind at their backs, Plunkett's enjoyed a greater degree of possession in the early stages of the second-half and Cian Boland scored their first point from play within five minutes of the restart.

A superbly taken Alan Moore goal a minute later effectively settled the issue although Plunkett's were rewarded for their perseverance through Seán Clerkin's 50th minute goal.
