St Maur's pull clear after break to claim 'B' title
DUblin sfc 'b' final
St Maur's produced a dominant second-half display as they accounted for Round Tower Clondalkin by 3-10 to 1-5 In their Dublin SFC 'B' Final at Parnell Park last night.
Round Tower could not have asked for a brighter start as Derek Murray slotted home from close range following a pass by Micheál Walsh.
A Ciarán Corrigan free in the 6th minute extended that advantage before St Maur's finally opened their account a minute later thanks to Ciaran Reddin.
Gradually, the Rush outfit began to enjoy a greater degree of possession and they trimmed their arrears to a point following successive scores by Conor McGuire.
Reddin was becoming increasingly influential and a superb solo score a minute later maintained the tightness of the initial exchanges.
However, some errant shooting on his behalf ensured Maur's failed to gain adequate reward for their general supremacy in terms of possession.
That lack of reward had a frustrating effect on St Maur's as they entered the break somehow trailing by 1-2 to 0-4.
Given Reddin's undoubted quality, it was highly unlikely that this scenario would prevail and so it proved as he restored parity with a fine score after 35 minutes.
After McGuire had pointed soon after, St Maur's landed a decisive blow in the 40th minute as Reddin's speculative effort deceived Keith Graham in the Towers goal to land untouched into the net.
That score knocked the stuffing out of the Round Tower challenge and despite Conor L'Estrange ending a barren spell of twenty five minutes when converting a close-in free, their challenge unravelled as they conceded points to McGuire and David McGuinness before late goals by Kevin Watson and Vinny Whelan gave a more accurate feel to the final scoreline.
