Rock sets up DCU decider against NUIM

DCU's super second-half showing brushed aside UUJ's challenge at NUIG yesterday as the Dublin university reached today's final where they will face NUI Maynooth.

The star-studded DCU side showed the full extent of their strength at Dangan in Galway when they sprung Donegal's Michael Murphy and David Kelly of Sligo off the bench in their 0-17 to 1-5 win.

As usual, Dean Rock led the way on the scoring front, with Dublin star Paul Flynn landing four excellent points.

A fine goal from Anton McArdle after nine minutes helped UUJ lead by 1-3 to 0-5 at the interval.

But the northerners only managed two points -- both from Peter Hughes -- after the break, as DCU took complete control, with Fiontan ó Curraoin superb in midfield.

Another Dublin star, Eoghan O'Gara, kept winning frees right in front of the posts for Rock to convert.

Once Rock pointed from a free on 43 minutes, DCU never looked back, with UUJ failing to register another score.

NUI Maynooth sent holders UCC crashing out after a great tussle at Dangan, winning 2-11 to 2-8.

Maynooth, managed by former Galway All-Ireland winner John Divilly, led from the front yesterday.

Now they are poised to add to their only Sigerson Cup success in 1976, when they meet DCU today at Pearse Stadium (3.0).
