Clubs' joint Fight Night looks set to be a knockoutTHEY are calling it 'The Battle of the Parish'. It's attracting more hype than the recent bout of Kenny Egan and Joe Ward at the stadium.
The Fight Night is a joint venture between St Mary's of Saggart and St Finian's of Newcastle.
It takes place at the Citywest Hotel on Friday, March 2 (8pm). It's a crucial fundraiser for both clubs.
The respective chairmen, Con McCarthy (St Finian's) and Brendan Murray (St Mary's), are appealing to the local business community to lend their support.
They can sponsor a boxer or a bout, or place an advert in the glossy souvenir programme. The company name and logo will be prominently displayed on the night.
Up to 600 people are expected at ringside. There will be 12 contests, including two female tussles. Following the action, there will be a DJ and dancing. "It will be a wonderful night's entertainment," promises Pat Farrelly.
The clubs have been working as hard as Don King to promote the occasion. It's the talk of both villages.
Tickets are €20.
