Orchard County facing into a Grimley future

PAUL GRIMLEY has finally landed his dream job - that of managing his native Armagh.

The new Orchard boss was unanimously appointed last night to succeed Paddy O'Rourke, having worked as his assistant this season, culminating in Armagh's shock qualifier defeat to Roscommon.

Grimley shot to prominence as Joe Kernan's right-hand man when Armagh made All-Ireland history ten years ago. In more recent years, the much-travelled coach has popped up on various management teams in Cavan, Kildare (under Kieran McGeeney), Monaghan and then Meath last year (under Seamus McEnaney).

The Armagh county board ratified his appointment and that of new assistant Brendan Hughes at a meeting last night.

SEáN óG hAILPíN will complete his remarkable inter-county renaissance when making his first championship start in almost two years against Waterford on Sunday. Cork boss Jimmy Barry Murphy has recalled ó hAilpín in place of wing-back William Egan for their All-Ireland quarter-final clash. Further proof of Cork's transitional state, however, can be gleaned from the SHC debut handed to Daniel Kearney, who comes into the midfield at the expense of Lorcán McLoughlin.

There is also a recall for Stephen McDonnell at full-back, replacing Damien Cahalane.

WATERFORD'S only change sees Thomas Ryan handed his first championship start in place of Gavin O'Brien at corner-forward.

LIMERICK have recalled a fully fit Declan Hannon at centre-forward for their quarter-final with Kilkenny, veteran Brian Geary dropping to the bench. Tom Condon has been named at corner-back but may face a late fitness test.
