Opportunity now Knocks for Malahide

Malahide CS were the lone Dublin school to claim victory in the opening round of the 2012 Leinster Schools Senior 'A' Football Championship last Friday.

Mark Hazely bagged 1-5 for the North Dublin outfit with Cian McCarthy registering the hosts' other goal in their 2-13 to 1-8 win over Scoil Dara, Kilcock.

Malahide will now take on Knockbeg College in the next round.

A strong start ensured Coláiste íosagáin, Portarlington advanced with a 2-10 to 2-5 win over St Fintan's HS -- Ciarán Gallagher and Andrew McCann claimed the visitors' goals.


Elsewhere in Round 1, Killian Farrell (1-4) inspired St Mel's, Longford to a 2-7 to 0-5 win over St Mary's, Carlow by 2-7 to 0-5; while St Mary's Edenderry beat Marist, Athlone by 1-11 to 1-6, with eight different scorers for the winners, but Athlone CC emerged 1-7 to 0-9 victors over Salesian, Celbridge.

The other Round 2 pairings see Coláiste Eoin, Stillorgan travel to Good Counsel College; Moate CS face St Joseph's Rochfortbridge; St Mel's, Longford will face Dundalk Colleges; Patrician, Newbridge take on Athlone CC and St Mary's Edenderry face Ardscoil na Trionoide Athy.
