O'Hara my inspiration - O'Meara
THE new Dublin skipper Elaine O'Meara didn't have to look far for a role model.
"Louise O'Hara has been so kind to me every since I first came on the panel," reveals the Na Fianna star.
"Ever since that first day, Louise has given me so much encouragement. She'd offer little tips on this and that, advice that help make you a better player.
"She has been great, and her attitude has certainly spurred me on. Louise is such a big player for Dublin."
Elaine has mostly played in midfield or defence, "although I did have a spell in the Dublin attack when I first came onto the squad," she recalls.
She is now established as one of the finest defenders in the country, and she thanks all those at St Monica's and O'Toole's that pointed her in the right direction.
Due to a lack of numbers at O'Toole's, Elaine signed for Na Fianna. She is now home from home on the Mobhi Road.
"It has worked out well. We won the Shield last season. We also reached the semi-final of the Senior Championship and finished third in the Senior League, so all of that represented major progress for us."
Na Fianna have a famous face in the dug-out, Heffo Hero Paddy O'Reilly, who helps out his daughter, Ciara. Elaine would be chuffed if the Dubs could someday follow Paddy's golden footprints all the way to Croke Park.
