Dublin's defence of their Leinster MFC begins this afternoon when they meet Louth in their opening Group 1 encounter at Parnell Park (3.0).

The new format introduced this year sees the 11 provincial contenders divided into two groups with Dublin and Louth placed in Group 1 alongside Meath, Offaly, Wicklow and Westmeath.

It may be a repeat of last year's provincial final but there will be very little in terms of continuity and familiarity for either side with the age group now reduced from under-18 by a year.

As a result, both panels will be taking a step into the unknown and in such a competitive group, both teams will recognise the need to hit the ground running with Dublin in particular hopeful of a bright start and positive result as their next group game takes them to Navan to face a highly-rated Meath side.

Dublin's cause will certainly be helped by the experienced management team that they have assembled for this particular age group with both Jason Sherlock and Ger Gleeson sharing the managerial role while they have a strong back-room team in the form of Wally Durkan (Ballyboden St Enda's), Paul Griffin (Kilmacud Crokes, Brendan O'Brien (Trinity Gaels) and David Henry (Raheny).

The group could certainly not be accused of any bias towards a particular club with 12 different teams represented in their starting selection for today's match.

Only Lucan Sarsfields with Matthew Dunne and Mark Lavin, St Vincent's with Conor O'Brien and Eoin Adamson and St Margaret's with Rory Dwyer and Ciarán McManus are doubly represented.

Dunne is a talented attacker that is comfortable off either foot and if he is allowed to influence matters, Dublin, under the captaincy of Enda Cashman from Ballyboden St Enda's, should do enough to claim the two points on offer at the Donnycarney venue this afternoon.

DUBLIN (MFC v Louth): S Murphy (St Sylvester's); N Hatton (Nh Barróg), A Fearon (Skerries Harps), A Rafter (Na Fianna); R Dwyer (St Margaret's), C O'Brien (St Vincent's), M Lavin (Lucan Sarsfields); E Adamson (St Vincent's), C McManus (St Margaret's); M O'Leary (Kilmacud Crokes), C Murray (Castleknock), E Cashman (Ballyboden St Enda's); M Dunne (Lucan Sarsfields), C Hennessy (Clanna Gael Fontenoy), S Foran (Whitehall Colmcille).
