Moore hits three as Vinnies rout Setanta
St Vincent's kept their qualification hopes alive when comfortably defeating Setanta by 3-23 to 0-9 in their Dublin Senior Hurling Championship Group 4 clash in Parnell Park last night.
The contest started in an even fashion with early scores by Conor Mullins and Diarmuid Connolly being cancelled out by a brace from Fiontáin McGibb.
However, Vinnies gradually exerted control on affairs through points by Alan Moore, Graham Giblin and Tomás McGrane with Setanta's sole reply a free from Seán Ó Riain.
From that point, it proved a masterclass from Connolly up until the interval with three sumptuous points in quick succession ensuring a healthy 0-14 to 0-5 lead for St Vincent's. Two Alan Moore goals within five minutes of the restart effectively settled the issue and he completed his hat-trick in the 45th minute as Vins eased home by 23 points.
Across the city in O'Toole Park, Cuala secured their progression to the quarter-finals as they finished strongly to account for Lucan Sarsfields by 0-19 to 1-10.
Darragh O'Connell was in fine form for the Dalkey outfit with the Kerryman hitting four points from play as Cuala led by 0-9 to 0-5 at the break.
A Tommy Somers penalty left the tie delicately poised but Cuala held on thanks largely to the defensive efforts of Paul Schutte, Ross Tierney and Oisin Gough.
SHC: St Vincent's 3-23 Setanta 0-9; Cuala 0-19 Lucan Sarsfields 1-10. SHC 'B' St Vincent's 1-16 St Sylvester's 1-13.
