McNamee returns to boost the Faithful

Niall McNamee has returned to the Offaly senior football panel.

The 33 year-old, considered the Faithful County's finest footballer of the past decade, retired from inter-county football after Offaly's exit from the 2017 All-Ireland SFC.

However, new Offaly boss John Maughan is understood to have convinced McNamee, who is currently nursing a knee injury sustained playing for Rhode in the Leinster club SFC, back into the fold in recent weeks.

Offaly opened their Division 3 account in disappointing fashion last weekend, squandering an eight-point lead to lose to neighbours Westmeath in Tullamore.

Maughan's men travel to Pearse Park to face Longford in their second match of their NFL campaign on Sunday (2.0).

Comprehensive

Meanwhile, Dublin football management will have a close eye on this evening's Sigerson Cup round three clash between holders UCD and DIT in Belfield (7.30).

Con O'Callaghan, who made his first league start for Dublin in Clones last Sunday, was part of the UCD team in their comprehensive opening round victory over CIT.

Kilmacud Crokes defender Cian O'Connor, who came on as a second half substitute for Michael Darragh Macauley against Monaghan, also started that day for the current Sigerson champions while Darren Gavin - a recent addition to the panel - played at midfield/wing-forward.

Brian Howard is expected to play for DIT as is Andrew McGowan.
