McMan' drives Jude's to glory
DUBS hero leads way as Tymon men show class
ST JUDE'S 0-19 ST ANNE'S 0-4
GREY clouds in O'Toole Park last night. Bright football. Full of pace and dash.
A father and son on duty, Darren and Scott Fulham. The son of the father, Scott, curled over a beauty of a free into the pitch and putt end in the first half.
Jude's were in last year's semi-final. They reached the final in 2009. They were 0-10 to 0-3 ahead at half-time here.
They were full of purpose and speed. They struck some excellent scores. They dominated much of the script.
Yet the Bohernabreena boys stuck with it. John Nolan almost stole in for a goal but 'keeper, John Carthy gathered. John is the son of RTE's Brian.
And in the second period, Nolan shook the post with a first-time effort.
The Anne's corner-forward, Seán Stewart, bent over one of the scores of the evening, while Daniel Watson is a wonderful football. He gets some distance into his deliveries.
David Wright played between the sticks for Anne's. He foiled Kevin McManamon of a certain goal in the 23rd minute, brilliantly turning the ball around the post.
Seamus Ryan was prospering in the Tymon engine room and he hit a lovely point before the tea. Joey Donnelly's point was also one for the scrapbook.
Yet following the break, Kevin McManamon began to dazzle. He put the head down and off he went, time after time, like the road-runner.
He sent over some tasty points. They came from all kinds of angles and distances.
He would also have had a goal but his palmed attempt rebounded off the bar.
Early in the second period, Kevin lofted over three scores in three minutes. Then big brother, Brendan, entered the action.
He strikes the ball so sweetly. One of his passes set up Kevin for another point.
Declan Donnelly would have had a goal only for another super stop from Wright.
The rain held off, but Jude's were intent on building their own waterfall of scores. And they finished the hour like they had started it – with intent.
