McGeeney understood as Lilies take Donegal
KIERAN McGeeney's Kildare side ended Donegal's 100pc record in Division Two thanks to a 1-17 to 1-9 win in Newbridge.
Kildare had shining performances all over the field. Johnny Doyle slotted six points, four of which came from play, and was possibly the pick of them.
Dermot Earley, Ken Donnelly, Damien Hendy and Hugh McGrillen were others to stand out, and it was all a far cry from the first-round mauling by Down at the same venue.
On that occasion, McGeeney wondered if he was speaking French to his players. Certainly, the instructions were heeded ahead of this one.
"We got them a translation book" joked the Kildare manager. "They're starting to understand some of it. But it can change fairly quickly. We've a tough game next week (against Armagh) but we're happy.
"We've four points and it's a tight division. There are five teams up there with a point between them, and score difference might come into it at the end of the year. We put fellas under a fair bit of pressure this week to perform and they responded."
