Mayo pitch invader becomes unlikely hero
AN unlikely hero has emerged in the aftermath of the Kerry-Mayo replay.
The gentleman who stormed the pitch after the game in the Gaelic Grounds in Limerick has become something of a minor celebrity.
The pitch invader was given a huge welcome in a Supermacs fast food restaurant (inset) after the game on Saturday evening. A number of fans even queued up to have their photo taken with him and get his autograph.
Mayo lost out on a place in a third successive All Ireland Final in agonising fashion.
But it was the hearty performance of one particular supporter that grabbed the most attention.
It took almost a dozen stewarts to remove the man - named as Mick Barrett - from the pitch after he attempted to break free.
Despite the bitter disappointment, Mayo fans saw the funny side on the day and jokingly suggested that the man is tipped to become a full forward for the side in their next campaign.
