Lucan go for national gold

"In its long history, stretching back over a 100 years, underage camogie in Dublin has never been as strong."

So declares the camogie chief at Lucan Sarsfields, Liam Ryan.

Lucan are the Division 1 Féile champs. Two years ago they brought home national gold.

On June 18 the great adventure starts again in Clare. The Sars will be well primed.

"It was a massive struggle to get out of Dublin this time, and that will stand to us in the national finals," stresses Liam.

"We had some very tough matches against the likes of Plunketts, Vincent's, Na Fianna and Boden.

"It was an excellent standard. There are some very good teams out there. It's great for Dublin camogie. Next year the U14 grade is going to be as strong, if not stronger. There are some wonderful players coming up through the ranks.

"The overall quality is getting better. It's rising all the time, and that's fabulous to see."

Lucan are very much part of the revolution. And rightly so, according to Liam.

Brilliant

"We are pleased that we are up there, but that's the way it should be from our point of view.

"We have top-class facilities, brilliant mentors and a big population, so there is no reason why we shouldn't be doing well.

"Everything a club could ask for, we have it. We are just delighted that the camogie section is up there with all the other codes in the club.

"We have solid structures in place, and we are absolutely thrilled that we have won the county Féile title again."

The next few weeks will be spent perfecting the touch. The heavy graft has been long done.

"We'll keep them ticking over. The hard work was put in during the winter. It's all ball work now.

"When you go down the country, it's all about the skills -- the first touch and striking.

"The Féile was a marvellous occasion last week. There were good crowds at the matches.

"Hopefully we can now go all the way and bring another All-Ireland title back to Dublin. That would be great.

"The girls have done so well. They are just super and they love their camogie."
