Lethal Larriers leave Lucan lost
O'Toole's produced a dominant second-half performance as they comfortably overcame a lacklustre Lucan Sarsfields by 1-20 to 0-13 in their Dublin Senior Hurling Championship quarter-final at Parnell Park yesterday evening.
On a perfect evening for hurling, both sides started in an enterprising manner with Emmet Ó Conghaile opening the scoring for Lucan in the first minute.
The ebb and flow was maintained with Andrew Morris levelling matters in the 4th minute and the sides were still deadlocked three minutes later as Conor Carton and traded scores in a lively opening.
With Lucan struggling to clear their lines at times, under intense pressure from the Larriers forward line. O'Toole's enjoyed a brief pocket of dominance, as reflected in consecutive scores from Carton and Morris.
The contest descended into a dour struggle for the remainder of the half with unanswered points from John McCaffrey, Aidan Roche and Mick May inching Lucan ahead by the 18th minute.
Despite Christy Mulligan dropping deep to land two fine scores as the half progressed, Lucan enjoyed a 0-9 to 0-7 interval advantage with David Quinn preserving his side's lead when repelling a Graham Morris effort in injury time.
O'Toole's garnered some much-needed momentum through a brace of Carton frees within four minutes of the resumption and a wonderful solo score by Ger O'Meara handed the Larriers the lead in the 36th minute.
With Owen Darcy, O'Meara and Philly Brennan hugely influential, O'Toole's continued in the ascendancy and settled the tie in the 48th minute as Mulligan fired low past Quinn after a telling incision from the right flank. .
