KILKENNY RATINGS

EOIN MURPHY: Saved penalties from both Seamus Callanan and 'Bubbles' O'Dwyer. Also pulled off a spectacular denial from 'Bonner' Maher in the second-half. RATING 9

JACKIE TYRRELL: Should have been sent off for a second booking after dragging Lar Corbett down for Tipp's second penalty but got off on mistaken identity. RATING 7

JJ DELANEY: Took up arms against Tipp's only stationary forward in Seamus Callanan and leaked five points from play. RATING 6

PAUL MURPHY: Marked virtually all of Tipp's attackers at different junctures. Pulled down 'Bonner' Maher for Kilkenny's first penalty. RATING 8

JOEY HOLDEN: For the most part, looked unsure as to just who he should be marking but held his ground well. RATING 6

BRIAN HOGAN: Free or no free? If the strictest interpretation of the law is applied, Hogan probably did deserve rebuke from Barry Kelly. RATING 7

CILLIAN BUCKLEY: Made two excellent blocks, one of which led directly to a score for the Cats. RATING 7

RICHIE HOGAN: Hurler of the Year regardless of what happens in the replay. A phenomenal performance. Hit six points from play, three from midfield and three after being moved to centre-forward early in the second half. RATING 9

CONOR FOGARTY: Played his role as supporting act to Hogan exemplary. Scored a point and allowed Hogan roam forward. RATING 7

COLIN FENNELLY: Hit a point but botched two passes, one in either half, when a more crisp delivery would almost certainly resulted in Kilkenny goals. RATING 6

MICHAEL FENNELLY: Hit one brilliant point off his left side from close to the Cusack Stand sideline near the end of the first half. RATING 8

EOIN LARKIN: Suffered the ignominy of conceding a free for diving in the first half. Otherwise, set the tone and hit two big points of Kieran Bergin. RATING 7

RICHIE POWER: Coolly rounded Darren Glesson for Kilkenny's first goal and then, sucked in the Tipp 'keeper and buried for his and second and Kilkenny's third. RATING 8

TJ REID: Scored 1-8 (0-6f) and gave a peach of a pass to Power for Kilkenny's first goal. RATING 9

WALTER WALSH: According to the match programme, has six inches on Cathal Barrett but got destroyed by his direct man, one second half point aside. RATING 5
