ST Jude'S will host the second All-Ireland Under-13 Camogie Sevens on Saturday, September 11, the day before the camogie finals in Croke Park, at their club grounds in Tymon Park, writes Rónán Mac Lochlainn.
This championship has been officially approved by Cumann Camógaíochta na nGael and it is a first chance to win an All-Ireland Championship for players and for their clubs in pre-Féile year.
The progressive Naomh Jude club have arranged an illustrious list of competing teams with invitations accepted by the 2009 Under-12 Camogie Champions in the following counties: Cahir (Tipperary), Turloughmore (Galway), Éire Óg (Cork), Danesfort (Kilkenny), Lucan Sarsfields (Dublin), St Martin's (Wexford), Lavey (Derry), St Cillian's (Offaly), Sixmilebridge (Clare) plus holders Toomevara (Tipperary) who will join the host club in what should be a day of high quality and tension.
The group stages run from 11am to 2pm, with quarter-finals and semi-finals starting at 3pm and Cup and Shield finals at 5pm in a competition which has been kindly sponsored by Johnston, Mooney and O'Brien.
The club has supported the competition by organising a Family Bring a Friend Day for the same date on the all-weather pitch as well as a family BBQ and if it mirrors the success and enjoyment of last year's initial tournament, then a great day should be had by all.
Tournament organiser John Coman is particularly enthusiastic about this year's renewal, especially given the quality of the players on show. He said: "We were lucky to have such a great competition last year and everybody in the club is looking forward to seeing some of the best camogie players in the country coming to Tymon Park.
"It's an important competition in that it's the year before Féile and I'd imagine most clubs will be looking forward to pitting their wits against some of the top teams in Ireland in what should be great preparation for their own national competitions," added Coman.
