A classical Dublin Senior 1 Camogie Championship final at sun-blessed Abbotstown yesterday. And the second title for St Jude's.
It was a repeat of last year's final where St Vincent's won with much to spare. But this duel was so much better. A compelling contest. From its first minute.
Jude's finished with a flourish. Scoring two goals in the last four minutes.
The first of them was a penalty. Drilled to the net by their goalkeeper, Faye McCarthy.
And then, on the hour, Leah Butler's strike from a tight angle on the right ensured the Maura Brady Cup was returning to Tymon.
The final scoreline was harsh on the Dublin and Leinster champions. They were ahead by two points when McCarthy converted the penalty after Caragh Dawson had been fouled.
Vins played their part in such a terrific spectacle. The only pity was that the game had to be played behind closed doors.
It was a very open tussle between two superb and fit sides. It was laced with electric pace. Players didn't get a second on the ball. It was level six times. Jude's led by a point at the break, 1-6 to 0-8.
Their opening goal came on 25 minutes. Aisling Gannon showed her speed to sprint away from the cover and produce a precise strike.
Her sister, Niamh, excelled in the engine room. Beautiful balance, a lick of pace and very accurate. She was rewarded with the Player-of-the-Match award.
