Joey's classic hits 30

THE 30th St Joseph's/O'Connell Boys Inner City Football tournament begins on Monday night. All matches will take place in Fairview Park, writes Niall Scully.

The competition is for players of Junior B Championship standard or lower. Eight teams are taking part, Naomh Fionnbarra, O'Toole's, Innisfails, St Vincent's, Clanna Gael Fontenoy, Parnell's, Ranelagh Gaels and Joey's/OCB.

"The event has been a big success all through the years. The week always produces much excitement," says Joey's/OCB chairman, Barry Flynn.

"Fairview Park is the ideal venue. And there will be plenty of matches to enjoy as we have double-bills on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday nights," adds Barry.

The final will take place next Friday, August 3rd. Parnell's are seeking the four-in-a-row. The only other side to have achieved that feat are the hosts. O'Toole's and St Vincent's both completed three-in-a-row.

Michael Butler of Kilmacud Crokes will referee all seven matches. The post-final presentation and reception will take place in The Bridge Tavern.

The tournament sponsors are the IFSC Dublin Inner City Trust, and the other winning clubs on the roll of honour include Craobh ChiarĂ¡in, Clontarf, Starlights and Clanna Gael Fontenoy.
