St Vincent's turned on the power after the break to pull away from Ballinteer St John's and register a 1-25 to 0-15 victory in their Dublin Senior 'A' Hurling Championship Group 1 encounter at Marley Park last night.

There was little to separate the teams in a tight, cagey first-half that saw the hosts enjoy a fair degree of possession without unduly troubling the Vinnies defence.

Early points by James Gilligan and Daire Casserly were just reward for their pressure while a Cian McBride brace at the opposite end saw the visitors remain in touch.

The critical moment arrived in first-half injury time as John Hetherton raced through unopposed and fired a powerful shot beyond the helpless Seanie Lane.

Leading by 1-8 to 0-9 at the break, the Marino outfit resumed in complete control as they availed of the increasingly generous amounts of space afforded to them.

Rian McBride, for one, revelled the longer the contest evolved as he fired over four second-half points from play and while Seamus Fenton took his personal tally to 0-9 by the final whistle, it never looked likely to spare Ballinteer their fate.

Across the city on the Clontarf Road, Ballyboden St Enda's bounced back from the disappointment of their Round 1 loss to Kilmacud Crokes by recording a comprehensive 4-29 to 0-6 win over Scoil Uí Chonaill.

Paul Ryan led the way in terms of scores as he finished the game to his name and with James Madden in inspired at the back for Boden, the visitors pulled away thanks to two goals from substitute Pearse Christie and another goal by Aidan Mellett.

Elsewhere, last year's beaten finalists St Brigid's recorded their second win on the bounce as they edged St Jude's by 3-17 to 1-17 while Cuala defeated Setanta by 1-22 to 0-12.
