Dubs tee-up taste of special K
THE Dublin Ladies Football faithful have lined up a special K treat.
Their annual Golf Classic takes place at the prestigious K Club on Friday, May 18.
Already, the time sheet is beginning to fill up. A fabulous deal has been secured at the five-star retreat.
A team of four costs ¤320. That includes the meal and prize-giving.
There's also the extra treat of a burger at the ninth. The burgers will be as tasty as Dublin Coddle.
The golf will take place on the renowned Smurfit course. It's one of the best tracks on the circuit.
John Sheridan, Yvonne Burke and Kathleen Colreavy sit on the Golf Classic committee.
They are thrilled to be staging the event in the K Club. "We have been down there meeting the people a couple of times and it's a fantastic facility," says John.
"They gave us a wonderful deal, and playing at such a prestigious venue adds to the attraction of the occasion.
"It is always a marvellous day. It's not just about the golf. It is also one of our biggest social gatherings of the year.
"There will be good grub and excellent prizes. We feel people will enjoy themselves. It's terrific value.
"It's a very important fundraiser, and we'd like as any people as possible to take part. Our target this year is 40 teams."
The organisers would like to see more women tee-off. In the past, not that many women have played.
Yet, with the profile that the Solheim Cup attracted, and the increasing numbers of women now involved in golf, that could change this time.
Dublin chief, Maureen King, is urging all clubs to sign up, and there are t-box and green sponsorship options available.
The Dublin Ladies Golf Classic has been running for several years.
And this May Day promises to be the best of them all.
