Dubs duo back as DCU shock LIT
Eoghan O'Donnell and Rian McBride made their first competitive appearances of the season as fellow Dublin hurling panellist Donal Burke hit 2-3 for DCU in yesterday's shock one-point Fitzgibbon Cup victory over LIT in Moylish.
Neither McBride nor O'Donnell played for Dublin in their Walsh Cup campaign due to minor injuries but both are now in contention for Pat Gilroy's first League match in charge against Offaly in Croke Park on Saturday (5.0) after coming through yesterday's win at LIT's grounds outside Limerick city.
Daire Gray and Fergal Whitely, who appeared in all three of Dublin's competitive January outings, were also in action for DCU as Eoin Roche's side seized control of Group C in a 3-15 to 2-17 success.
Na Fianna man Burke scored a goal in either half and three points - two frees - as DCU upset Davy Fitzgerald's team.
DCU led by 2-7 to 0-8 at the interval but late scores from Clare senior David Reidy put LIT level before 2016 All-Ireland U21HC winner, Waterford Patrick's Curran - who scored 1-6 (5f) - fired the game's winning point in injury-time.
