Dromid seek legal advice on bans and fine

DERRYTRESK will be without eight players for the All-Ireland club JFC final on Saturday week while Dromid Pearses are seeking legal advice over their suspensions and fine as the fall-out to their infamous Portlaoise brawl continued last night.

The CCCC have handed down a total of 11 individual bans and fined the clubs €5,000 and €2,000 respectively after officials from both sides were called to Portlaoise to identify club members involved in the unseemly melee.

Of the eight Derrytresk bans, three are to subs on the day while Dromid received notice of suspensions for three of their players.

"We have received correspondence from Croke Park and we will now be seeking legal advice from Pádraig O'Connell in Killarney," said a spokesperson for Pearses.

THE GAA is now facing yet another disciplinary investigation after Westmeath ref, Seán Carroll, was confronted by angry St Mary's players after yesterday's narrow Sigerson Cup loss to NUIG.

Carroll and two of his umpires were verbally abused after the match and the altercation became even more heated when some Mary's players attempted to make their way into the referee's room as the officials were changing.

OVER 960 pairs of pink and blue gloves have been distributed to every county panel this week in a bid to raise awareness for cancer.

Players have been asked to wear the gloves to raise awareness and hopefully €100,000 for Action Breast and Action Prostate Cancer in association with Gaelic Performance.

Gaelic Performance founder Dermot McArdle said: "Gaelic Performance were honoured to be asked to develop a range of pink or blue gloves for the Irish Cancer Society. From the very start, our emphasis was on quality and performance. We wanted to produce a glove that players in every club would be delighted to wear because of the cause involved, and wanted to wear because the gloves looked great and performed brilliantly."

The pink or blue gloves are only available online through the GaelicPerformance Store (www.gaelicperformance.com), and discounts are offered for bulk orders for clubs.
